Pulled off I5 at 3,600 foot Mt. Shasta City and followed my device to Bunny Flats to have a look a closer look at the iconic mountain...I was happy to find a paved road though beautiful forests and a few inches of snow all the way to an inviting parking lot perched at 6,800 feet of elevation. Forest Service Ranger reported road is kept open most of the time.

I skinned a few miles up above the gate at the end of the parking on a few inches of dense snow to the site of the old ski area and on up to about 8K of elevation. Pretty barren above treeline. Patchy with bizarre wind plack below indicating a major wind event. A stunning location I will certainly return to.

I enjoyed your photos of the area. We have always skied in this area in the spring so it is nice to see what is under the snowpack. ;)
