Washington Pass environs; north facing slopes between 4200 and 5600' we found inconsistent unsupportive crust with 3" of hoar crystals on top, and 24 to more inches of not much more than air below.

the crystals... as wide as my fingers.



Snowmobile approach was the highlight of the day.
Woah, nice hoar. Hopefully you don't get that often.

Bittersweetly, once in a while I hear myself saying, thank God it's gonna rain this week.  So we can get on with the real snowpack commencing!
Look like beautiful crystal death ninja throwing stars.

Those are awesome. Definitely the leader in the PNW snow-crystal photo scavenger hunt of 15/16.

Found some of that up in the Duffey last weekend, too. Luckily, the snow beneath it seemed bomber.

NWAC telemetry indicates WA pass has picked-up 14" in the last 24 hours and not at particularly warm temperatures, either. Be careful out there!
