Hiking TR: Naches Peak Loop: 11/7/15

Probably enough base, and some new higher.

It appears that the Longmire gate is now on it's dreaded winter schedule -- goal to open by 9:00AM -- but the better the snow the later the opening.

The parks Twitter feed is somewhat useful in tracking when the gate actually opens.

twitter.com/MountRainierNPS

But I think it is most useful for looking at past snowfall amounts and gate opening times -- so you can develop your own rule of thumb -- e.g. more than a foot, I don't need to leave home until 8:00AM , 'cause the gate won't open until 11:00AM

Today (Nov 11) we found more-or-less adequate coverage (12-16 inches) on the west slopes below Naches Peak and the south slopes below Yakima Peak. The north slopes below Yakima had a few too many sharks circling.
