A New Mexico Question was created by filbo
There is a closed down resort in northern New Mexico that was called Ski Rio with 900 acres and 2,000 vert. Near the Colorado border between San Louis Co. and Taos.
Does anyone have any info if earning one's turns is allowed on the property or if it is a no trespassing situation. Will be in that area late winter and have a strong curiosity to ski it.
I don't have contact with anyone in Taos or the area so thought I would try here.
Thanks for any info.

IDK: www.hillmap.com/m/ag1zfmhpbGxtYXAtaGRych...lZE1hcBiAgICQvIjjCAw

Looking at the USGS Topo maps the appears to be on the "Sangre de Cristo Land grant" which has a complex ownership history, including "range wars" and not part of the nearby Carson National Forest and public land.

I drove up there once to give it a look and a lap in spring 2011 but there was a gate at a pretty good distance from the end of the road.  Heard rumors about plans for cat skiing or something like that?  Please update if you find a different situation.

Just found this on the web

I am grateful that Ski Santa Fe seems to be very uphill friendly.  Skied a mix of good powder and some groomed on and above their unopen slopes yesterday.

I went to the Endless Blue Resort web site which is current for 2015 and they rent out the area per week for $50,000 which includes the use of all the facilities as well as cat skiing.
Thanks for the info guys, Will probably give that idea a pass.

Not exactly in northern NM, but kind of close... All in south/western CO.

-  Silverton CO.  Classic. Affordable, big lines, etc.

-  Monarch Pass, 50 miles east of Gunnison (kind of affordable cat skiing as well as lift served)

-  Irwin above/west of Crested Butte.  I believe 450 for the day, but first class.  The area receives 2 to 3 times more snow than the resort at Crested Butte does.

In general, strong (free) BC skiing too in the CB area.  Helps to have a sled, but there are plenty of TH's to access the BC.  Haven't BC skied in the San Juan's yet, but a ton of options there as well.
