Tatoosh: Pinnacle Glacier status? was created by thatoneguydave
Does anyone know if there is anything left of the pinnacle glacier in the Tatoosh? It was in a pretty sad state of affairs in June and wondered if it had completely melted out.
Thanks.
Thanks.

It's gone. We hit it in August and it was slim pickings then, but still made for a great pond skim. Based on last weekend on the Muir snow field, you'll be looking at 7,500+ to hit anything at all. Muir snow field below Anvil Rock was slim pickings, full of small cracks, mud, dirt, water, slush, ice, glacial ice and rocks. Discontinuous as well, with a major break in continuity around ~8k.
Looked much better above 9k, but below 10.8 haha.

If only!
You can see it from the Mount Rainier-Tatoosh webcam; there is about a 20' chunk of frozen rock cocktail.

I've been reloading that camera every so often and biting my nails, wondering if this would be the year that eradicated the Pinnacle. :'(

Got to thinking about this a bit more, we were skimming in June, not August.....It's been gone a long time. That last picture is quite representative. 1 decent fresh snow will get us back in play though.

You're right... I was mistaken. My shot shows none on Pinnacle, and two small patches on Unicorn.
