May 8, Cascade Pass infos

I was up in the Cascade Pass area May 7 - 8. We parked at furthest open parking lot at Eldorado and pushed/rode bikes to Cascade Pass trailhead. According to website road is now open a little further to mile 20 but the road is 100% clear and open-able all the way up, so it shouldn't be long. Closures have been due to clearing some nasty blow down debris at a few spots as per usual.

Bushwacking from TH to the snow took about 20 minutes. Easiest route would be to cross creek at the last switchback before parking lot and go from there, but there's been substantial purging of cornices and sill glaciers on the terrain above, and its pretty spooky to be in that creek bottom. Maybe better to stay left and schwack it out.

Decent snow coverage to Cascade Pass, but water holes and cracks are opening fast and it might not last much longer. Above 6,000' the snowpack looks gorgeous and robust. And some damn fine skiing early in the day.
