Baker SA/Heather Meadows/Artist Point Beta? was created by Snoqualmonix
Any knowledge of coverage in these zones? Skiable to Austin Pass, Artist Point, Chutes?

Thanks!

Two weeks ago Blueberry chutes skied great but based on NWAC telemetry it looks like snow is melting fast. I'd make the effort to get up higher. Friends that were out yesterday sent drool-worthy pow shots from ~6000ft.

As of two weeks ago you could have driven a car beyond Austin Pass if the gate was unlocked. I can't comment on coverage since a lot can change in two weeks.

As of May 21:

Reasonable coverage considering the circumstances: The Line still skiable, though barely; north side of Table from the Inner Glacier still navigable down to the valley floor for the intrepid skier; Ptarmigan Ridge looking fine.  You could almost ski from the car parked at Artist Point if determined.

South facing generally toast below 4500-5000 feet, and not looking too inviting below 6000.  North facing still reasonable above 4500, better above 5000.  Mostly consolidated snowpack, with sneaker-penetration not more than ankle deep at its worst.  Some recent snow above 5500, so things might look different up high.

Hope that's helpful.

Mark

Donlt forget there will be restrictions on driving up to Heather Meadows this Sunday due to the [Don't] Ski to Sea. Also it will be a zoo.

The race web site is out of date (still lists the melted out cross country ski and downhill ski legs in this part of the site), but here's a description that presumable was applicable to last year:

www.skitosea.com/spectator-viewing-areas-2

Get up to the Mt. Baker Ski Area by 7AM on Race Day, as the Mt. Baker Highway closes at 7:30AM at Glacier, and no cars will be allowed up after that. Parking will be tight and cars will be escorted down in small groups beginning about 9:30AM and the highway will re-open when the last runner is finished around 11AM. Best viewing areas are near the upper lodge where the start and handoff occur. Start will be at 7:45AM. Dress for cool weather.
