May 3-4, 2015, Magic S Loop

cascade river road is gated at the eldorado parking area just before mp 20. we left the parking area around 2:00 pm and drafted on the skin track and bootpack of three other parties who completed the s loop over sat and sun. we camped at arts knoll and witnessed a spectacular sunset followed by an almost full moon throughout the mellow (wind and temps) night. clear skies allowed a 6" freeze and quick travel up the plan-b couloir to the top of hurry up. we skied the s glacier around 10:00 am and wouldn't have wanted to drop any later as the bottom of the glacier was complete mank by just after 10. the yawning glacier skied well around 11:00 and the descent back to the cascade pass trailhead wasn't too sticky shortly after.

this tour is well within reason for a day trip but after spending the night at arts knoll i don't know why you would want to rush it. and, thanks for the skin track and bootpack!
