After seeing hard core hail pounding Issaquah last night, three of us decided to observe national tax day by touring the Chinook Pass area. We left Issaquah about 6:30AM and arrived at the Chinook Pass parking lot at 8:15 to find full sun with the temp a mere 20 degrees F and only one lonely skin track up the hill.  After a quick skin over the shoulder of Yakima peak we found boot deep cold smoke on old cold snow.  We managed four laps on the shady side of Yakima peak, all of which were grand skiing.  After a quick lunch the last lap got sticky, so we skinned back over the shoulder and down sun baked glop to the car at about 12:30.  All in all, great snow, great Avy stability, easy skinning, and an all-around good ski day.  As usual, the hordes started arriving as we were on our way out with the snow tracked and toasted for them they were probably wishing they could have gotten out of bed earlier€¦spring snow waits for no one!
