Plot of NWAC accident reports by month was created by Charlie Hagedorn
With the return of cool wet weather, my thoughts turned back toward avalanches. I got to wondering about relative accident rates between late winter and early spring. As a Snoqualmie skier, it feels like the first weeks of April are a magnet for accidents. So, I got to plotting. I know NWAC has shown similar plots at NSAW/NSAS, but I didn't find them quickly.
My biggest surprise - March, April, and May have each taken equal numbers of our friends from us.
Thank you, everyone who's worked with or supported NWAC, for building and maintaining such a valuable resource.
Ski gently into Spring; we're all powder-starved, and this is an atypical year.
