March 29, 2015 Anthony Lakes, OR

On our way to Anthony Lakes we drove through Baker City where we stopped at Charley's Ice Cream Parlour – a great place to begin/end a spring day with huge portions and great ice cream. We arrived at Anthony Lakes late Saturday afternoon, and there was an awards ceremony for the skier speed event. They used a police radar gun to check the speed, and awards were given for kids and older folks – many who hadn't raced for years and wore their old stretchy racing clothes. Families with kids and/or dogs were in attendance. Friday night it rained at the area with thunder and then a half inch of snow. Sunday was a sunny spring day. Jill skis for free and bought me a $35 ticket for the 'young' guy. It was a great sunny day for us and it was very quiet on the lifts. A Nordic triathlon event was going on and a kids' jumping event. We met “md2020” and his friend who have been here for a couple of days. They have been here several times this season and were heading for the Lakes region with their backcountry gear. Great to see him again and to meet his friend. Anthony Lakes is another one of the neat small ski areas that we visited on our trip. Bring you're downhill, backcountry and Nordic gear and enjoy the great area. Happy folks.
