I skied the runs at Stevens yesterday, on some surprisingly good snow for such a bare spring.  There is less coverage now than in May of the last few years.
First lap up Skyline started with some sun and 1/4" new.  By the top there were a couple inches of older fresh atop a smooth base, groomed by machines last weekend then by rain?  A few flurries appeared.  After a second cllmb it was snowing steadily and cooler, so I skinned a few hundred feet higher up Solitude (following a snow school group) and got a steep shot of several inches on a firm crust.  A third short climb up Hogsback added to my total vertical but it was raining, wet and grabby by the bottom.  My first-weekend-of-spring solo picnic in the upper parking lot was cut short by increasing rain.
Several days in a row of "accumulations of less than an inch" gave me a nice blank slate to carve on for almost every turn.
90 months of Turns All Year!   :)  What will the next 7 months be like???   ???
Or 10 or 11?  8)
