Had spring break this week and took a trip into Canada in hopes of better fairing snow. We were rewarded at Kootenay Pass. Wednesday was good corn and fun, but Thursday was really the money day. We had about 10" that stacked up really well on North/NorthEast slopes and bonded beautifully to the underlying corn. It was a little thick, but nothing to complain about this year.

Kootenay pass in general had 105cm near the trailhead and ~185cm at 6300ft. Really good coverage, didn't hit a thing. Sadly the same cannot be said for Whitewater backcountry a little bit North. We were stoked and ready to tour the area North of the resort (along the access road) but quickly changed our mind after seeing how sharky it looked. Super sad stuff, and absolutely no snow was found in Nelson. Miracle March isn't over yet tho!

Edit of our trip with some Baker and Coastal Mtn skiing thrown in from earlier in the week (sorry no photos):

Thanks for the Kootenay report, glad to hear you had good skiing, that is a fun spot.

Thanks for this tr...got a make it up there!!!

Hi there, I'm thinking of heading up there this weekend. I've never toured there, however. Can you recommend any resources for information? Any camping or couch-surfing tips? Other advice? Looking for mellow touring for a few days -- mostly exploratory and relaxed turns.

Cheers,
Kate
