Gib Chute does not look good at all, very thin and rough snow through the crux at 12000 ft, although the route does "go". Somehow it's not holding snow well this year, despite near-normal precip this winter which was close to 100% snow at that elevation. The long sunny periods and direct wintertime sun in the steep south-facing chute must be to blame, along with extremely dry air during extended periods of upper-level high pressure which caused increased sublimation of the snow that it had gotten. The relative humidity has been under 10% on the Camp Muir telemetry many times during this winter, which is just incredibly dry for this maritime climate.
Two photos from March 7, 2015:
Cropped from a much wider-angle photo, sorry it's not fully sharp.
Zoomed in on the crux. For a sense of scale, I'd guess the snow is about 20 ft wide through the crux. (click for double-size version)
