I saw the firm snow become continuous at 5400€™ on the south aspect of Johannesburg. The slopes angle 35-40 degrees.
Above, in the bowls the powder from the recent storms did reside. It was lovely & made me wish I€™d not abandoned my splitboard in the valley.

My plan had been to ride soft snow on the right skyline off the summit ridge, under sunny skies with a belly full of eggs. However reality had hit me hard the night before when the trail 767 disappeared in the dark, and daylight confirmed that the snow level was very high & that a tree-bomb had blown all down the middle cascade river valley & the travel was bitchin€™ hard.

Nice job fighting the burn. That is a special place.

I saw your car parked by the gate as we left from the Eldorado TH Saturday night, I was wondering where that went.  Thanks for sharing!

thanks for the report - that is a cool area.  if only the Middle Fork approach route were as straight as those hillmap path-lines!  i'm sure the stats are not truly representative of the effort, and imagine the approach is particularly fun this year.
