Headed up rock mountain Sunday - trail was mostly dry until 4500' where we hit continuous snow. Skinning was a bit tough with a mostly hard surface, making me wish I brought ski crampons. Slippery side-hilling made for slow travel and a 2pm summit. The views were pretty spectacular, although we didn't dawdle for too long as the weather was turning and wind picking up. The ski down was so-so, the snow surface was pretty firm but not terrible. Our ski down the ridge back to the car was made much faster by staying a few hundred feet below the ridge-line.
