A quick conditions report here.  Pete and Becky put out the call for a social/sunny trip to Green with very low expectations.  Eight folks and two dogs answered, expecting crampon-hard snow and chattery skiing.

Easy driving all the way to the trailhead and 1500 feet of bare trail before we put on our skins at the base of the high valley that comes off Green's southern slopes.  We became optimistic about the conditions - 4-6" of cold powder in the trees had condensed into a couple of inches of nice mashed potatoes, well bonded to the old snow beneath, on direct south facing slopes.  We lounged on the summit enjoying spectacular views, then put in a couple of laps on the south face in excellent snow before hitting the dirt back to the car.  Great first day of the season for me.
There is something wrong with the first picture ;)
