Where to Go - Rain Coming. was created by icecoast06
Hey guys - Coming out from the East Coast to link up with a buddy of mine in Portland. We'd planned for the second year in a row for shooting for the Tatoosh (last years Juneuary redirected us up to higher Paradise environs), but thats obviously not happening with SL going up to 7000 possibly Thursday and Friday.

Is there anything that escapes this rain without a monster tour? Any higher parking lots/trailheads than Paradise you can suggest? Looking for something within 3-4 hours of PDX. Right now the best we've got is a haul up to Whistler for a day, obviously driving time eats the better part of two days on either end of that. Super bummed but trying to make the best of it. Thanks for any help!

Go south to California and go rock climbing or mtn biking.

The problem is if you go high up enough above treeline during a rain event you're going to be in a major whiteout and potentially very high avy conditions.

The base of Anthony Lakes ski area (lift skiing and touring from there) sits at 7100 feet, but it's a 5 hours+ drive from Portland, and it could be raining there too.

Like DG response. Went by Anthony Lakes yesterday. Reasonable amount snow, in fact snowing in Baker(and in general the Wallowas are in decent shape). Doubt it will rain there, but 5 hrs from PDX and avi issues outtabounds depending..

Stop in PDX--> buy ticket to Japan or Northern BC.

Seriously though, best bet to escape the pineapples is to head east to Wallowas.

Sweet. Thanks for the input all. Its either going to be Anthony Lakes environs or a haul up to Whistler w a prayer for lower SL. Bad stretch. Hoping this turns around soon, and big.

In order to succeed I reccomend hauling to the cad Rockies around banff. Whis offers no shelter from pineapples.

Stone Gardens Bellevue. Some of the best skiing available in WA right now.

Whistler alpine forecast has freezing level coming up to above the base of the Glacier chair with reasonably high winds for this weekend. Nothing quite like skiing by braille down into the rain, assuming that the upper lifts aren't on hold...
