January 2, 2015, Rock Mountain

Quick conditions update for the curious. Will and I had a nice tour up Rock Mountain last Friday. Coverage is pretty low for the bottom 1500 feet, though we were able to skin from the car. Descending was a different story, and due to surprise rocks lurking we booted down the last 1k or so. With Sunday night's rain I am betting you'd have to boot that part both ways by now.

Up higher in the alpine conditions were much better. Great coverage all around and fun if heavy skiing. Some cornicing on the final ridge to the summit, but easily passable in a few places. Unfortunately the wind was high and visibility nil at the top, so after a quick transition we descended the route we climbed.

All in a nice day with some sun breaks providing inspirational views into the Chiwaukums.
