12/31/14 - ONP - New Year's Eve at Hurricane Ridge

Jan and I continued our tradition of spending New Year's Eve snow camping in the Olympics. This year we chose a summer picnic area west of the lodge which had a great sheltered southern exposure and quite luxurious amenities.


The inversion layer that moved in earlier in the day made conditions quite balmy for mid-winter. After setting up camp we had time for a late afternoon run near camp followed by a sunset dinner. Jan brought Christmas tree lights to decorate a small nearby tree and party favors to celebrate the new year.
True to form, we were fast asleep long before the New Year arrived.  ::)

The next morning we toured out to Hurricane Hill and skied the SE aspect, conditions varied from spring-like at the top to breakable crust near the bottom.
