With AWD, we could easily drive to the end of the Thorp Creek Rd at 4000'. After a short hike up the way trail, we could skin up past Thorp Lake to the 5500' saddle just NE of the summit. While brewing chai, sheltered behind amazingly rimed trees, we were rewarded with brief views of peaks from Huckleberry to Daniel. Otherwise, we'd been in a cloud all day. Breakable crust in open areas and thin coverage in the woods dictated a skins-on descent. A nice day with no rain.
