Seven mile sled approach from Dutchman Flat brought us to a short skin and slide below Bald Butte this morning as weather seemed to be approaching.  There was a thin candy shell at first, then stiffer wind crust near the ridge crest.  Fortunately it was fairly supportive for the slide down with occasional icy sections in flat light. Thanks Jimmy for the assist and idea. Now thankful for a chauffeur to Portland before I have to drive the rest of the way home in time for family dinner birthday party.
silas, uber is i p town now for your portering convenience. see if they'll carry you home.:-)

Ball Butte, not Bald.  We parked the sled at the Wilderness Boundary at 7300', then skinned 800' to the top.  Great view to Bachelor and Broken Top.  Added info here, fearing an edit to the original post would erase everything.

Way to get after it early.  That is a sick area!

That is a beautiful locale and it sure looks like winter's happening there!
Nice work bringing some snowy cheer to an otherwise tough start to the season.
