A repeat of 2005! was created by Donnelly_M
Depending on who you ask, the weather pattern does not look good. 6,000-7,000 foot snow levels with lots of rain for next week. Looks like this may be a very low snowfall year! How many monthly streaks will succumb to this year's El Nino?

Things I'm currently concerned about:
  • surface hoar
  • freezing rain (aka "ball bearings")
  • shallow snowpack (possibility of depth hoar)

I hate pineapples. But I hate them less when they destroy weak layers.

'04/'05 wasn't very good, but the spring finished out pretty well. Big storms at the end of March and through the first part of April had me skiing around Mission Ridge until June. It is what it is, as "they" say.

Yeah, there was snow above 5500-6000 ft that season if you wanted to walk.

There is no reason for the streak to end due to the current weather pattern. There is skiing to be had with less effort than in October. Heck if you have $30 you don't even have to hike for turns. Crystal is open.

1977 was a worse el-nino than 2005 and and I had some great skiing that year, in places that normally one could never reach mid-winter, since FS roads were drivable to much higher elevations.

So, I just posted in this thread again and it seems that it deleted Randy's previous post. WTF?

I was looking at pictures of the pass today and noticed a couple pics I took on December 8th of 2007. There wasn't any more snow then we have right now, and we all know how that winter turned out.

There is some rail sliding event at Stevens Pass this weekend. Assuming I gain at least 10 feet of vertical per tow, if I do it 100 times, I'll get my minimum 1,000 vertical feet required. Streak saved!

This is what I remember as well. Although I think it was September that I skied 17" at Stevens. I think Philfort was there and I remember asking ski patrol if they were planning on opening soon! September!

Also I think that was the year we met Aaron. Seems like we were skiing powder late season after Mission finally gave in. Brilliant year for mission...

I think I could drive in 1977 but not legally.

Well, I started skiing in 1962...

I'm thinking that a really good snow storm is going to hit the cascades starting Thursday and it will be great skiing this weekend -- but Tuesday morning it will be raining again -- matching my travel plans to see family in NYC.

I predict a torrential down pour then a trace to 1 inch for hood. Followed by cold and dry until February. Seems to be the staus quo around here as of the last 5 years. I need cheaper less fickle hobbies.

2011 all the resorts were open before Thanksgiving. The average is Dec 10 for Snoqualmie Pass and even if it opens around Christmas it won't be that much off pace. No need to panic yet, it just takes one good weekend storm to get things rolling.

Randy, I'm just a pup, since I didn't start skiing until 1972 (though that's because my parents didn't, and that's when I could go myself). I thought it was me that ensured that weather pattern but I see that it rained so friggin' high & hard because we both went to visit family in NYC at the exact same time. Karmic overload.

Anyone know of a resource list ski areas' historic opening days (or I guess in 2005, open, close, open, close, etc)? A quick search of Amar's site was fruitless.

I need to know when to start panicking, I hope it will cool my angst.  ???  ;D
