11-29-2014 Heliotrope Good Snow
« on: 11/29/14, 08:21 PM »

I joined about 20 to 30 other people and found pretty darn good snow at heliotrope today along with awesome views and bitter cold.  I would describe it as wind blown powder up high and some firmer stuff on the wind blown ridges.

4wd should have no trouble making it to the trailhead where there was 4-6" of snow.

Trail was fine on the way up, seemed to be a little icier on the way down but no problems, its not anywhere near as bad as paradise gets.   Easily skinnable from treeline or a little before.

Don't trust the ice on the creek crossings. My wife ended up with wet boots on the first one.

I second the warning on the ice crossings.  I got damp toes when I punched through the slush.
