The forcast brought brilliant sunny skies but as expected, wicked winds above Pan Point foiled any further attempts to get in any descent skiing on the glacier. I have never experienced winds on Rainier or anywhere else as high. We were constantly buffeted by 60 to 80 mph gusts knocking us off balance and sometimes to our knees. Darn dangerous climbing even with crampons.
We saw a couple of skiers without axes or crampons slide tumbling helplessly on ice; fortunately without injury.

Inversion up to Camp Muir where the winds possibly die down before the normal lapse rate starts occurring and it gets colder with elevation to the summit. Obviously due to the huge frigid East flow flowing over the cascades which must be somewhere in the region of 8000 ft in height?? I'm sure the soundings would tell the same story.
