I don't know the routes on Shasta. Not sure if this hampers skiing.

Best-known ski route is east of there and over a ridge, the Hotlun-Wintun glaciers (Hot Tunes). Doesn't look like that was involved.

Most common hiking route which you can ski also is straight out of town to the west, and again there is a nice big ridge in the way. A variation of this involves driving up the highway on the south edge to the location of a former ski area (wiped out by a slide), and then hiking north and dropping onto the snowfield from that ridge. Again, I think that was well to the west of the slide.

I don't know that area, but it looks like it's at the end of that same road, and a popular trailhead when there is snow holding the rocks in place.
