Thanks to grooming and small lift crowd on the final day, we had very smooth conditions on the Palmer snowfield.  Cool temps and a breeze kept the corn flakes crisp, skiing possible to 6100' only 10min from Timberline Lodge.

Maybe the best conditions in the world right now, and likely the shortest time from Seattle living room couch to boots and skis on (longer drive than Paradise or Baker, but much shorter walk to snow.)    https://vimeo.com/105314415   https://vimeo.com/105405113
look for my buddy nopostholio.

NoPostholio got banned - but Chieftaffy saw him and his entourage. Forgot to ask what happened in SA Silas?

Thursday, September 18, did not hold such glorious weather as shown in the pix posted in the early month! Started from Timberline with a quickly lowering ceiling combined with Estacada Fire smoke, and quickly was enveloped by strato-cirrus. Got on the snow just above where the sno-cats are in the background, but 'snow' is a misnomer. So much volcan dust covered it that it was frozen mud! Managed to find the top of the slough shown, at about 7550 or so. Had to avoid sno-cats, sno machines and boarders dropping off the Palmer into the slough. Was able to ski back to 6200 ft, at times on an 18-inch-wide white-er strip of bliss. Visibility was about 50 feet at any given time. But, it was all still ski-able. Now, let's hope for a return of last Sept's freak dump so Crystal and Stevens can open for a day!
