Muir Snowfield Conditions? was created by HappyCamper
Looking for something cruiser tomorrow.
Anyone been up recently? Ok with walking a bit to continuous snow - but wouldn't want to find mammoth sun cups either.

Skied Muir today (Sunday 27th). Started skinning just above Pebble Creek, about 7400'. Snow was firm and smooth between 7400' and 8500' - skied nicely. Pretty "not-smooth" above 8500'. From 8500' up to Muir the snow was, well, hard to skin up and a challenge to ski down. Stunningly beautiful day. Saw a fox, mountain goat, 2 marmots, a grouse and about a billion people.

Nearby, the Paradise glacier rode exceptionally well on Saturday. We skinned from about 6000' up to 8700'. Suncups were negligible and crevasses were easily avoided. Only downside is that the steeper headwall finish (skiers right) is no longer contiguous (doable with a short scramble) so we descended approximately the up route.

On Saturday there was still snow to pebble creek. On the snowfield booting remained faster than skinning for me. Skiing was so-so on the top half due to sun cups and stickiness, then somehow cornier and smoother for an excellent bottom half. Gorgeous day to be out, ending with a swim at Alder Lake on the way home. Highly recommended.
