Snow started falling here in Bozeman and we were able to get a preseason teaser. Five of us were able to climb Mt. Blackmore and ski/snowboard some wind loaded slopes. The snow base depth was very shallow, which made rock skis necessary. There were several inches of fresh snow on top of a sun baked layer which made for some good turns. The second chute we skied had up to a foot of fresh wind loaded snow. A few face shots in October are always worth the hike.
