My friend James and I made an early start from White River, hoping to find some snow among the trees on the way up to Sunrise along the wonderland trail and, of course, some snow above. I hadn't ever been on this side of Rainier before, save for skiing at Crystal and driving around on 410, so I was unaware of how much Sunrise could melt out. We found patches of snow almost 1000 feet below Sunrise, but nothing good until we were up at Sunrise proper. We skinned up towards Burroughs, but due to time, had to make a short run of it. Either way, the snow was actually some of the best I have skied since april, and the run, while short, was fun. Not to mention we had the place to ourselves.
