June 22, Mt Hood, Summit and West Crater Ski

After reading Monday€™s report from Cooper Spur, this report seems a little lame! Great skinning and climbing conditions on the standard Hogsback/Old Chute route, just after the summer solstice. Spent an entertaining hour on the true summit watching some guys playing with a quadcopter drone they had packed up €“ I€™m sure the footage is on the web somewhere! Skied down the west crater route in absolutely perfect conditions at about 11:30, half an inch of soft on a firm base made for perfect turns on the two steep pitches. Just as the corn started to get slightly sticky it was back to the cured, salted and groomed runs. The drive home in Sunday traffic took considerably longer than the combined climb and ski, but once again Hood delivered an outstanding June day.
