May 6, Mt. Hood, Snow Dome

Had a great day in the Eliot Glacier area yesterday on the Snow Dome. It was a true spring tour with two miles of hiking before hitting snow, corn snow down low and dry wind board up high. There was six inches of new snow on top of a solid crust on the snow dome. We were buffeted by a steady northwest wind at the top of the snow dome. It looked as though 10 people were doing a mountaineering training camp of some sort on Cooper Spur and the glacier proper. Maybe after seeing us yesterday they will see the error in their ways and trade their mountaineering boots for TLTs (;

Yesterday was my last tour of the season. I am heading up north to make the dollars. Enjoy the spring!
