Was going for Boulder Mountain (not the sled area) north of Revelstoke but we found our road beta to be bad so we headed up to the Mica Dam to ski the terrain on the ridge that rises above the only bridge north of Revelstoke on HWY 23N. To our great triumph we also found the road that accesses the valley south of the bridge to be plowed to KM 17. One of the forestry workers kindly escorted us in at 6:30am. We managed to make it to KM 14 before a boulder blocked the road. We worked the second prominent southern avalanche ravine (counting westwards) onto the ridge top. Our intention was to drop into the large north bowl but visibility was zero at ridge top so we went back the way we came. Dust on crust with corn/mush skiing down low. Started out as snow at 1050m in the morning and the snow level rose to 1200 by the time we returned. Large amounts of snow still at the bottom of the valleys so it will be a while yet before most FS roads become passable.

If I had known this zone had been plowed for the last two months I would have spent the majority of my time here. The tree spacing and potential ski zones are astounding.

Without a plowed road for access there is still a lot of ski terrain to be had from the bridge, or from near the top of the dam on the east side of the river (haven't skied the east side but it looks like it could hold excellent, easily accessed skiing).
Ooh. Nice find. Was at the pass for the long weekend and found deteriorating conditions, going from decent pow on top of slop on Friday to horrifying trap crust on Saturday to begbie IPA at Village Idiot on Sunday.

mmm... begbie IPA - the taste of Selkirk powder!
