Haven't seen many conditions reports on MSH. Sunday, Apr 13 was the day for getting the goods! Bluebird, fairly mild winds. 260 permits sold! 1 mile hike before continuous snow. A few small carries (Chocolate falls, etc.) further along. Conditions were quite firm, arriving at rim at 11. Skied down at 1130. Top 1000' were fairly crusty. Worked skier's right to the terrain-park like bowls, chutes, and roll-overs just to the east of Monitor Ridge. PERFECT corn for the next 3000'. Only got mushy at the very end; below Chocolate Falls.  Stupendous day.

Have been wondering about how the Butte Camp route is for skiing, generally (not just right now). Anyone who has done it, please reply to the post.
One photo, I suppose...Adams was looking prime.

Looks like we descended at just about the same time as you on Sunday!

We ended up booting most of the way due to the firm snow conditions. Here's a shot of us skinning right after breaking camp at around 6am.

A stellar day for sure!

I was out there the same day, after three days on Hood for a friend's wedding:

I thought that snow conditions ranged from very good excellent for well over 4,000' vertical, with ski descent timing was very similar to yours ... although I have to admit, was dictated more by other factors than by any sort of careful well-informed assessment:
- woke up (far too) early in Gov't Camp
- started hiking up from the trailhead a little before 9
- skis on @~3090'
- skis stayed on the entire way after that, except for that little ~10' portage crossing those sun-baked rocks down low (w/ only a few hundred vertical requiring ski crampons)
- met up with my partners at the summit 3 hrs later
- on the descent, stayed to skier's left of the ascent route, entering that little gully @~5300' (wouldn't have done that any later in the day, or on a warmer day, given the evidence of recent rockfall)

i just really want to ski the crater.  like inside it.  :)

Are WA Snow Park permits currently required for parking at Marble Mountain?

Nope, not as of April 1st: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mountsthelens/recarea/?recid=64876

Which is good since there's no snow in sight of the parking lot anymore!
