We are trying a new spring forecasting schedule this year!

The last daily NWAC weather and avalanche forecast will be issued on Saturday April 12th. After April 12th and through the end of the 13'-14' season, NWAC will continue the past practice of issuing special avalanche statements when unusually hazardous spring avalanche conditions are expected. However, this season you can look forward to a more scheduled and gradual forecast transition for the remainder of the spring even as the snow melts and our observation network decreases.

For the last two weekends in April, complete mountain weather and avalanche forecasts will be issued on Friday afternoon, and again on Saturday for full weekend forecast coverage. As we transition into May, an avalanche and weather outlook highlighting potential avalanche concerns for the upcoming weekend but not a specific avalanche danger rating will be issued every Thursday afternoon during the month of May. This weekly outlook will not be updated unless unusually hazardous spring avalanche conditions are expected.

While continuing to monitor the weather and snowpack during the spring, here at the NWAC our attention also needs to shift to other essential areas of the program. We provide forecast support for the WSDOT seasonal pass openings, tend to our broken weather equipment, finish seasonal reports and complete the many administrative tasks that ensure we can operate the program and move forward next season.

Thanks for your support,
Northwest Avalanche Center
