On Friday,  my pit revealed about a foot of wet new on a wind scoured west facing slope sliding with little effort above a melt freeze layer. About 1.5 feet of sugar snow below the crust to the ground. I figured that If I am going to dig a pit, I'd better pay attention to the results. I altered my original plan and headed for more mellow terrain.

Sunshine Friday afternoon softened up the crust from the freeze overnight and made for some mashed potato skiing on mellow southerly aspects. Lots of pin wheels observed, some 2 feet or more in diameter.

Large cornices collapsing triggering slides observed on north aspects. Wind scoured zones with shallow snowpack softened up in the pm for spring like corn conditions and enjoyable turns.

Saturday was a wash with heavy rain, wind and fog, poor visability...excercise... soaked despite the goretex.

Much awaited turns Sunday after the sunshine did it's magic in the glades! Some rather eye catching cracks showing :)
Smart move.  The first photo looks spring-sketchy.

That crack is crazy.  What a wild winter we are having.
