March 4, 2014, Whistler Side Country

After essentially a closed day in the Alpine, the Flute area was as good as it gets. On my first set of turns, I had put iced up goggles on just as I was picking up speed. I couldn't see a thing, but put down 20 turns before I stopped to adjust. It was that smooth! I used a snowboard track as a skin track to do 2 more laps. It was the first time I have gotten any use out of a snowboard - and now love them very much as the powder was really too deep to skin up in reasonable fashion otherwise. It does, however, give me pause that someone would put in all that time to get there, and then straight line the whole slope...Tomorrow will be just as good as the sun never came out and the snow never stopped!
