While setting skin track climbers left of the waterfall, a 4' long crack propagated forward past the end of my ski. 6" deep. Snow only ran about 2' down slope but that was enough for us to turn around and head to Kendall.
Kendall Knob had bothersome crust but only near the top. Most of the descent was a fun mix of powder and wet snow.

4 feet wide, 6 inches deep, running 2 feet downhill. That might be the smallest avalanche I've ever heard of! ;)

You crack me up. I almost just spit out my coffee while reading your reply. ;D
I changed the title of this thread. I've been using "avy" as a shorthand for unstable snow, avalanches, etc. but that is confusing to readers.
In the past few years, I've seen a lot of movement and propagation while skiing downhill but almost never while skinning. I think the snowpack was trying to tell me something on Tuesday and I was listening.
