Tree skiing in the pass vicinity seemed safe to us today, the top 2-3" sluffed easily but was very light. Sounds like north facing open slopes above 5000' are dangerous: 15' crown above Alpental Nash Gate and 10' crown on the north side of Chair Peak! I've also read that the SW facing open slope off Kendall Ridge and the Slot gully off Mt. Snoqualmie skied well yesterday, tho. The 8-10" consistent soft fluffy powder in open old growth trees made us plenty happy, thanks Mom (nature.)

Powder skiing in the trees was awesome yesterday! There was widespread loose snow sluffing of the new storm snow (6-8" deep by 2 p.m.) on slopes steeper than 35 degrees. We did several laps and then called it around 2 p.m. when the loose snow sluffs started becoming increasingly difficult to manage. Also, the trees became "sluffed out" more than skied out, so once the good skiing had sluffed off it was time to go home!
Interesting that NWAC forecasted a storm slab, and the obvious concern seemed to be widespread dry loose snow avalanches. The new storm snow was not yet behaving as a slab.
Frightening to hear about the deep slabs that ran! It was a good weekend to stay in the trees.
