Feb 9 Union Jove Peak Pow

Parked our car along side 10 others at Smithbrook Rd by 8:30 and skinned along the road til the Trailhead - took that up in the trees to the saddle below Union and swung around to the North and on up to the top of Union.  Getting down to the saddle for Jove was a challenge, like skiing down a set of stairs, each one of us took a fall or two with low light and undulations galore.  Skinned up towards the top of Jove but between avy concerns and ice as a top layer we decided to head down close to the trees on the west side of the face, cutting back towards the middle between stands of trees.  About half way down found lots of powder and skied what we felt were safe lines, went up and did it again - heard a couple of wumps through the whole day and were leery of open faces - looked like someone had been up there a few days ago as well skiing from the top.  The upper face probably skied with ice, but the lower areas were just ripe with pow.  Got back to the car by 5:30 and one of two left for a long, but good day.
