With record breaking crowds droving into the Stevens Pass parking areas, and a late start, We all agreed on a Rock Mt. tour. Of course I did not disclose all of the details of our newly acquired mission... say... like the fact that we would have to walk up the South side trail to 4200'... What they don't know wont kill them, I thought...
Details:
We skinned from 4200', on 6"-8" of well bonded, light fresh snow with a nice little Hoar frost topping, to the ridge East of the S. peak ( while finding nice East facing shaded slopes to hold 12"-14" of cold smoke)
Booted up the South peak to gain the northward ridge that leads to the summit proper ( Wind scoured down to the old rain crust)
Skied the little chutes into the East bowl ( No instabilities were found, so it was game on)!
On the way back out, we skinned back up on to the lower flanks of the S. peak, and skied some fun stuff in the evening light.
Other note: Trail was a little icy.

Saw the post on NWH and was confused that it wasn't mirrored over here yet. Excellent shots of what looked to be an excellent tour on an excellent day.

Bonus points for making like the temperature and getting inverted! TR of the year so far, IMHO.

My favorite shot from the last run.

As the song goes, It's a long way to the top, if you want to ROCK and ROLL.

Man, you got some great shots. Maybe I should hire you to follow me around one day and make me look good!

A little vid I threw together.

Looking at the topo of Rock, I'm curious about what the north aspect looks like?  thoughts?  could you see into that basin?

Nice. I heard a rumor this morning that microspikes were quite useful on the first and last parts of this venture. Sounds like someone knew what they were getting into...

It is a awesome long open run of moderate angle except for the steep entrances: direct is a tight couloir that was partially melted out when we were there in spring.  We downward traversed skiers right to a roll.  Too bad it requires a climb back out.
