Rallied the road as far as we could, made it to within 300 yards of the PCT trailhead. How close you can get depends strongly on clearance, flotation, and lug size (or chains). Standard Subaru add a mile, 2WD not recommended.

We went through the small trees of the meadow, very bad idea. staying on the road is far superior. There was a skin track to nearly the top of Silver, although it was icy in the upper west ridge area. Skiing at the top was LOUD, but surprisingly not terrible as the crust was supportive.  Then it wasn't and that sucked, but then below the suck was proto-corn in the low-angle meadow. Not the best skiing but still better than staying in the city and it was a hell of an adventure driving there!

Ski in-ski out parking!

Don't go this way:

Icy but edgable crust conditions in the upper bowl:

Also I should add that I spied a nice looking couloir on an unnamed mountain across from Twin Lakes. It's pretty obvious. Has anyone done this line before? Is it as fun as it looks?

Cool.  We were in there on Saturday.  Took the tree-farm and didn't think it was that bad, we even skied down it.  The pond looked pretty blue in the center, so we hugged the edges...  It was a solid frozen rain crust on Saturday, but it sounds like Sunday was better with a bit more warming.

Google "Twin Lakes Couloir" and that should lead you to it.  It's a pretty sweet line.

Also TNT over at The Snow Troopers made a nice video about the line.

I always called it "Butt Crack Couloir"

A friend did it within the last couple years and said it was dreamy.
