December 21, 2013, Apex Mountain

Drove over to Apex today for a bit of easy touring before the quad chair opens on Monday. Had low expectations to start the morning due to a freezing drizzle the night before that had formed a quarter inch crust on the new pow pow. Expectations were lowered further after watching some people ski down one of the runs and hearing the crust breaking on their turns.

Luckily it appears that there was some wind with this freezing drizzle so the trick to today was to ski the edges of runs where the trees had shielded the pooder from the drizzle. Had some awesome turns with minimal effort. I always get the best snow here when the lifts aren't spinning.
