NSAW chatter thread. Lunch spots? Parking? Etc. was created by Charlie Hagedorn
I'd thought an NSAW chatter thread would've emerged organically by now, but it hasn't.

As the HUB's food court is closed on the weekend, where are y'all eating lunch? Favorite Ave lunch spots?

Getting there:
hub.washington.edu/directions

Updated post from last year:

The HUB (Husky Union Building) on Google Maps .

If a pedestrian can't direct you to "The HUB", ask for directions to Red Square (webcam), and go east, aiming for the far side of the nifty gothic-ish library. The HUB borders a roughly-triangular lawn somewhat larger than a baseball diamond.

Parking: Free in most lots on campus on Sundays (check for loading/1-2hr signs). Gatehouses are not staffed Sundays. Free parking appears to include the Padelford Garage (close to the HUB) and the Central Garage (entrance at 15th and NE 41st St). Backup: Surface lots near the Burke Museum (45th and 17th Ave NE, walk south and east to the HUB).

Drop-off: an easy option is to enter campus from the east entrance (near U-Village, on 25th Ave/Montlake.). Drive uphill until you hit a T. Turn left, and drive ~100m. You're there, the HUB is on your right. No permit needed at the gatehouse; just drive in.

Lunch: on-campus options are limited on Sunday. One block W of campus, the "Ave" (University Way NE), has scores of restaurants from which to choose, fast and affordable. The HUB is also within walking reach of the University Village.

Transit: Bus service to campus is ample, frequent, and convenient to Kane. The Burke-Gilman bike trail runs beside campus (don't forget a lock).

Still on the fence over attending, but as an alumnus who spent half a decade on the campus I'd recommend these lunch spots:
  • MOD Pizza (On the north side of NE 42nd St between "The Ave" & 15th Ave NE) - quick, made-to-order pizza. $5-10
  • Schultzy's (On the east side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - sausage rules supreme here, whether it's pressed into a burger or served in its traditional fashion, their shoestring fries can't be beat. $10-15
  • Aladdin's Gyrocery (On the west side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - cheap falaffel and gyros, if you can't decide just get a "Jumbo #9", you won't be disappointed. $5-8, cash only
  • Samurai Noodle (On the east side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - great Ramen and other noodle-based dishes. $6-12
  • Burger Hut (On the east side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - excellent burgers and shakes, the "Burger Hut Special" comes with a fried egg and is my personal favorite. $8-12
  • Chipotle (On the west side of "The Ave" between NE 42nd & NE 43rd streets) - burritos and other Mexican-American fare. $5-10
  • Thai 65 (On the east side of "The Ave" between NE 42nd & NE 43rd streets) - decent Thai food at a reasonable price. $8-12
  • University Teriyaki (On the east side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - standard-issue teriyaki, generous portions for the price. $5-10
  • China First (On the west side of "The Ave" between NE 42nd & NE 43rd streets) - middle-of-the-road Chinese cuisine, good lunch combos though. $5-12
  • Pho Thy Thy (On the west side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - best broth of any pho spot on the Ave. $5-10
  • Pho Tran Bros (On the west side of "The Ave" between NE 42nd & NE 43rd streets) - free creampuff with your order. $5-10
  • Korean Tofu House (On the south side of NE 42nd St between "The Ave" & Brooklyn Ave NE) - those in search of a hangover cure should look no further, spicy Korean fare with excellent options for omnivores and vegetarians alike. $8-15. opens at noon
  • College Inn Pub (On the east side of "The Ave" between NE 40th St & NE Campus Pkwy) - the definitive college bar. Excellent beers on tap, good pub grub. $10-15
  • Big Time Brewing (On the west side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - locally-brewed beers on tap and good lunch options in the pizza and sandwiches departments. $10-15
  • Cafe Solstice (On the east side of "The Ave" between NE 41st & NE 42nd streets) - good sanwiches, great coffee. $8-12
  • Cafe Allegro (North of NE 41st St in the alley between 15th Ave NE & "The Ave") - Seattle's first coffeeshop. Not much for lunch options, but the spot is a favorite for a quick espresso and pastry. $5-10

Of course, you can always order Jimmy Johns. I have a number of friends who deliver for the U-District store who'd be happy to take your business and bring a tasty sandwich of your choice to you at the HUB.

Thank-you Charlie for taking the initiative to get folks Beta on NSAW food/parking!

Parking is FREE on Sunday's with one caveat: There is a lot next door to the HUB. It has many spots marked Staff and many for Handicapped.

DO NOT PARK IN STAFF SPOTS. DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAPPED SPOTS.

These are still enforced on Sunday's and you more than likely would find a ticket on your windshield if you don't heed this warning..

Unfortunately I have nothing to add on where to eat. I am brown bagging it....

Other good lunch options: Agua Verde - on the water, good and somewhat unique Mexican food, and Thai Tom - a very small hole in the wall with very limited seating, but really excellent food.  Lots of folks get take out from there.

Last minute changes require me to skip the event tomorrow.
So I have two tickets to the event tomorrow free for the taking.
If you have been waffling over the $30/head cost this may just be your day.
First one to pick them up in Kent before 5:30 pm today in Kent gets them.
Email me for the location (click on email to the left).
