Good day of sunny skiing today at Rainier.  Not a cloud in the sky.  It was Lynn's first ski tour today.  Great day except for the beating we took on the (booting) descent in our AT boots.  How many times do I have to learn to wear hiking boots/tennis shoes/sandals/loafers with spikes attached to them instead of just my AT boots?

As others have mentioned, skiing isn't really available until above Pan Point, and then with a couple short carries.  Even with the approach, it's still worth it...Hard, icy snow at Camp but softer and fast within 500 feet or less below Camp Muir.  Awesome first trip of the year.
