First pair of fat skis was created by RonL
I just got some used Karhu Jaks and tried them out yesterday. The tips are so big that the hoop that came with my g3 skins no longer fits over, or rather it barely fits over but would come off periodically as I was skiining. Anyone else have this issue? Are there bigger hoops for the tips of fat skis, or have people come up with a better alternative?

Black Diamond makes a variety of skin tip loop sizes. Or, you can make your own from a clothes hanger, pliers, and duct tape.

Right on, thanks. I do have clothes hangers.

I bought new 130mm BD skins to go with my Jaks -- the giant sized loops that came with those skins have worked OK. With "wall-to-wall" skins on the Jak's the grip allows for amazingly steep skin tracks.<br><br>I really like the Jaks -- breaking track is much easier, in spite of the heft of the skis. Skiing in spring mush -- becomes "sweet" instead of "labor intensive"<br><br>Enjoy!<br>

I picked up a pair of Atomic Telle Daddies this year and ran into a similar problem. For some reason Atomic decided not to put a pointy tip on the ski, it is very round and the tip loop will not stay on. After a little thinking I came up with the idea of using the Voile ski straps. I've only been out once on this set up but it worked very well.<br><br>Aaron

Ron,<br>Get some 10 guage electrical wire, strip the insulation back half an inch , twist the two ends together and solder. Make them nice and big. Or buy the bigger hoops from G3 which they supply with the 130mm skins. I have three year old Line Motherships which are the same ski as the Jaks minus the metal and the large G3 hoops work fine. <br><br>Michael Ellis
