Got lazy this summer and wanted to check off August with minimal effort. I saw Gary's post from the 4th, and heard from a fellow Alpentalic that the snowfield behind Obstruction Point was still skiing well. That was a stretch, but it was still skiing "satisfactorily". We had to do the dawn patrol thing, and didn't get to hang around for long enough for things to really soften up. Had we, the suncups likely would've progressed from "horrible" to "meh". They'd settled in somewhere around "pretty crappy" when we left at 12:30. That said, there's almost no hiking required, and you get a steep run with 300ft of vert.  Really, it's worth going up there just for the view. Hadn't been up there in a while.

If you, too, are a lazy SOB and don't feel like hiking, this spot (dubbed the "Augnar Snowfield") should still have life left in it for another weekend or two. And when you're done, you can go to Hurricane Ridge, shove your way through the hordes of tourists, step on some flowers, hand-feed a mule deer and watch some cruise passengers burn the brakes up on their rental Hyundai on the way back down the hill. Could be a hoot.
Ahh, yes...Gary and I have linked many TAY's by skipping out of work early for a dusk ski of that patch. Nice work! With a little more time and effort, you can probably still find substantially more vert than that just a little bit down the trail.

The Sassenachs have pillaged some of the Obstruction Point goodies---well done lads.

We were out biking the Discovery Trail for 3 days, and when the clouds finally lifted today we could see all the remnants on Obstruction and Elk Mtn.  Some bigger ones can be had E of Obstruction Point, but they may end in steeper terrain.

Great pictures!
