Forest Service was indeed correct, you could not drive much past Yellow Aster Butte trailhead. There was a big slide over a creek about 1/4 mile past trailhead. We did the easy boot along the road for a mile and a 1/2 and then skinned on. We headed up to the east of the lakes in a steep traverse followed by a bootpack up to a gorgeous ridge/knoll at about 6K feet. Views of the NE side of Goat were amazing but we seemed to be a few weeks late for that as lines to the valley floor looked brushy/streamy. Descended moderately cuppy snow on N shoulder into nice terrain that looped around to N side of lakes.
