May 18, 2013, Colchuck Glacier corn

Climbed Colchuck via Colchuck Col with several students in The Mountaineers Basic Alpine Climbing class.  Everyone had a good time.  Some of us skied.  Photo gives you idea of the snow coverage on the lower slopes down to the lake.;  All continuous and nice a smooth with 2-3 inches of corn forming as the sun warmed things on Sunday.  Looking over at  Aasgard Pass  the snow looked to be going fast and to my eye, may not be continuous near the top.  Maybe someone has a report on that.  On the scramble to the top I was very glad to have an ice axe in a couple spots and there is snow on slabs that really does not seem too safe. Note to self: Remember in the future that it is a long walk on a bad trail to Chuck Lake!
