April 23-24 Spearhead Traverse

Day 1 Got a late start on tuesday getting up to the top of 7th heaven chair and making the short bootpack up to the top of the closed t-bar by one o clock. We were immediately surprised by some well consolidated powder on N aspects despite the warm temps. Took advantage of the longer days and made it to the ripsaw glacier by about 7 pm and made camp and watched a spectacular sunset. Once the sun was down it was much colder than we had anticipated and we got up to frozen water bottles.

Day 2 we wanted to get off the big terrain before the heat cranked up on wed, as a result we skid a couple of very hard solar aspects before they had softened up. Despite the scratchy early AM snow we were glad to be out from under the cornices above th overlord glacier before the day got warm. Eventually we got back around to some consolidated powder exiting the overlord glacier, corn down to Russett lake, more corn to the ski area boundary and slush and mud to the base of whistler.

This was my first time on the Spearhead and it lives up to its reputation. The scenery is stunning and with the lift assist you stay in incredible alpine terrain the whole time. 2 days seemed the right amount of time to do this in for us, though extra time would have allowed for some extra ski descents
